MEDIA ADVISORY President of Nigeria to Address Civil Society Leaders at AED “The New Nigeria: Opportunities for Partnership and Innovation” Washington, D.C., December 12, 2007 — WHO: His Excellency, Umaru Yar’Adua, President, Federal Republic of Nigeria WHAT: AED to host a conversation with President Yar’Adua and U.S. civil society leaders in his first visit to the U.S. since becoming President of Nigeria. In addition to remarks by the President, three presenters will brief the president for 3-4 minutes each on how they can support the President on issues such as education, microfinance, and the Niger Delta, which are among his priorities. The President will be welcomed by AED President Stephen F. Moseley and introduced by the new U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, the Hon. Robin Sanders. WHY: One in every five Africans is from Nigeria. As Africa’s most populous country, and one with many resources in addition to oil wealth, American organizations working in civil society are very interested in knowing how they can best work with President Yar’Adua to continue to improve Nigeria’s human and economic development, and strengthen democratic governance.
